TheatreStory:
Johnny Martin is the director of the 2017 American criminal thriller Hangman, which was written by Michael Caissie and Charles Huttinger. Al Pacino, Karl Urban, Joe Anderson, Brittany Snow, and Sarah Shahi are among its stars. It centers on two detectives who search for a serial killer who patterns his killings on the children’s guessing game Hangman. On December 22, 2017, it was released, and critics gave it a bad review. In Monroe, Georgia, Detective Ray Archer confronts the driver of a hit-and-run van after noticing a gothic pendant hanging from the rearview mirror.
A year later, Christi Davies, a reporter, goes with Detective Will Ruiney to a crime scene where a teacher has been hanged outside her school and has the letter “O” carved into her chest. Inside, they discover a classroom set up by the murderer, complete with two mannequins portraying Hangman and a desk engraved with Ruiney’s and Archer’s badge numbers. Captain Lisa Watson cautions Davies not to get involved when Archer, despite being retired, enters the probe. The coroner discloses that Carrie Cooper, the victim, had received multiple treatments for fractured bones.
When the investigators search Cooper’s apartment with Davies, they discover that Cooper was seeing Joey Truman, whose bedroom is covered in blood and has BDSM equipment in her closet. They question a woman at Truman’s address, who turns out to be Joey Truman. She tries to go away but is apprehended. She denies killing her and asserts that Cooper’s past injuries were a result of their relationship.
Truman makes an attempt at suicide but escapes, and her alibi is verified. The investigators identify David Green, a convict, as the owner of some of the blood found in Cooper’s bedroom, and they track him down to a church. The murderer uses his Hangman diagram to solve his escape after hanging another victim, who is wearing a pig’s head and has a “N” etched on it. The pastor of the church, Green, says that months prior, an unidentified attacker stole his blood. Ruiney understands that the murderer will kill seven more people every night.
The detectives and Davies follow the FDA stamp on the pig’s head to a slaughterhouse and Eric Anderson’s “M”-carved body. Archer comes to the conclusion that they ought to look for Anderson’s car in the adjacent river. Ruiney is compelled to acknowledge that the Hangman Killer killed his wife Jessica, who was carved with a “V” and was his first victim. They find a model railroad copy of Monroe at Anderson’s house, which leads them to the next victim. They discover him alive and carved with a “C” hanging above railroad lines, but they are powerless to save him from an approaching train. The victim is the killer’s next target, as the detectives discover that she caused the vehicle accident that incapacitated Captain Watson.
Before Watson can complete carving a letter, they rush to her house and save him from the Hangman’s noose. As the Hangman slips by Archer wearing the officer’s outfit, Ruiney finds the corpse of a police officer. The detectives and Davies pursue the murderer as he flees on a motorcycle, but he manages to get away when a semi-trailer truck hits their vehicle. The second victim, Joey Truman, is discovered to have a “T” carved on her body. Archer claims that this was retaliation for the two saving Watson. The detectives find Adam Kellerman, who served a jail sentence for assault during that time and later sold Anderson the model town, knowing that the murderer was not active between Jessica’s murder and the night he stole Green’s blood.
When they raid Kellerman’s toy business, they find him dead from what appears to be suicide, surrounded by signs suggesting he was the Hangman. But after being kidnapped by the real Hangman, Davies rips off his jewelry. He puts her in a noose attached to a ceiling fan after transporting her to a mausoleum. After learning that Davies has been abducted, Archer discovers the pendant and recognizes the Hangman as the motorist he detained a year prior. They go to the tomb, where Archer meets the Hangman, after Watson calls to inform them that the murderer is live streaming a video of Davies online.
