The term “pori” is a “objectionable word to degrade the self-respect of the girl,” according to a plea filed with the court by the Andhra Association of Telangana against the film’s title. The plea was rejected by the court. The movie is an official remake of the 2014 Marathi film Timepass, which starred Ketaki Mategaonkar and Prathamesh Parab and was based on the 2010 book Knocked Up by author Shaiju Mathew. A Telangana youngster named Narsingh is expelled from school after receiving a poor grade. He falls in love when he meets Prashanthi, a wealthy man’s daughter. “Andhra Pori” is how he addresses Prashanthi. It translates to “girl from Andhra,” and the movie deals with the drama in their family and relationship.
