Biography:

John William Ferrell is a highly acclaimed American comedian, actor, writer, and producer, known for his comedic film roles and television work. He gained fame in the mid-1990s on “Saturday Night Live” (SNL), where he stayed for seven years, becoming one of the show’s highest-paid cast members. His impersonations and original characters on SNL were widely popular.

After leaving SNL, Ferrell transitioned to film, starring in comedies like “Old School,” “Elf,” “Anchorman,” “Talladega Nights,” and “Step Brothers,” establishing himself as a leading comedic actor. He’s also taken on dramatic roles in films like “Stranger Than Fiction” and “Downhill.”

Beyond acting, Ferrell has produced numerous successful television shows, including “Succession,” “Dead to Me,” and “Drunk History,” earning multiple Emmy Awards. He also created the comedy website “Funny or Die” with Adam McKay. He received a Tony nomination for his Broadway show “You’re Welcome America. A Final Night with George W. Bush.”

Born in 1967 in California, Ferrell grew up in a suburban environment that he says influenced his comedic style. He attended the University of Southern California and began his career in comedy with The Groundlings improv group.

Ferrell has also done voice acting for animated films like “Megamind” and “The Lego Movie” franchise. Recently, he starred in “Barbie” (2023) and produced/starred in the documentary “Will & Harper” (2024). He’s won numerous awards, including the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
