Biography:

Vinodini has acted in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and television shows. She started her acting career as a kid performer and progressed to lead and supporting roles before appearing in television shows. In Kannada movies, she was given the name Shwetha.

Before taking on lead roles in Tamil films, Vinodhini started her acting career as a child artist, making appearances in movies such as Manal Kayiru, Puthiya Sagaptham, and Mannukkul Vairam. Balu Mahendra directed her in Vanna Vanna Pookkal in 1992. The movie didn’t help Vinodhini’s career even though it was both critically and economically successful—winning the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil and running in theaters for 100 days.

In that same year, she made her screen debuts in two different Malayalam films: Soorya Manasam and Chaitrada Premanjali, when she adopted the stage name Shwetha. Both movies were commercially successful. She started concentrating on Kannada films by the mid-1990s, where she continued to play lead roles, after making appearances in a number of Tamil films, including Balu Mahendra’s Marupadiyum, Visu’s Pattukottai Periyappa, Rama Narayanan’s Vaanga Partner Vaanga, and two K. S. Ravikumar films, Suriyan Chandiran and Muthukulikka Vaariyala. She only had a few cameos and small supporting roles in Tamil movies in the late 1990s. She appeared in a few movies, including Puthira (N. Mathrubootham), Unakkaga Ellam Unakkaga (comedy film directed by Sundar C.), and Ratchagan (action film starring Praveen Gandhi).
