Vanishree, born on August 3, 1948, in Nellore, is a renowned Telugu film actress who gained fame during the 1960s and 1970s. Her birth name is Ratnakumari. In addition to Telugu cinema, she has also acted in Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam films.
Vanishree made her debut in the film industry with “Marapurani Katha” and rose to prominence with her role as a sister in the movie “Sukhadukhkhalu.” Notably, the famous song “Itta Mallela Velayani” featured her in that film. Throughout the 1970s, she continued to act in Telugu films and became a leading star in the industry. She held this status until the late 1970s when Sridevi and Jayaprada entered the scene.
Following her retirement from the film industry, Vanishree got married and settled into a different lifestyle. She is now a mother of one son and one daughter. In the 1980s, she made a comeback to the film industry, primarily portraying motherly roles.
Vanishree, originally named Ratna Kumari, initially studied at Nellore’s Usman Saheb Pate B.V. High School until the ninth grade. Due to family circumstances, her mother relocated the family to Madras (now Chennai). Vanishree had a strong desire for education and an interest in fine arts. Even after the move to Madras, she continued her education at the Andhra Mahila Sabha and briefly pursued veena and dance lessons. She studied Bharatanatyam for three years after completing her matriculation. Her dance education began with R. Malavya and continued for an extended period under the guidance of Vempati Chinasatyam.
