Biography:

Tim Burton is an American director, producer, writer and artist known for the gothic look, black humor and fantastic characters of his films. He was born on August 25, 1958, in Burbank, California, and studied at California Institute of the Arts. Having joined Walt Disney Productions as an animator, he created several successful short films that helped him develop the artistic style different from the one typical of Disney at the time. P

ee-wee’s Big Adventure (1985) brought Burton to fame, and he established himself as one of the prominent directors in Hollywood with Beetlejuice (1988) and Batman (1989) that became a box-office hit. Moreover, his close collaboration with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter turned out to be a key feature of Burton’s directorial work.Burton created numerous acclaimed films, such as Edward Scissorhands (1990), Ed Wood (1994), Mars Attacks! (1996), Sleepy Hollow (1999), Corpse Bride (2005), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), Alice in Wonderland (2010), and Dumbo (2019).

Furthermore, he is the creator of the story and the producer and character designer of The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), directed by Henry Selick. Burton has been nominated for the Academy Awards several times, mostly for his animated films, while Sweeney Todd received Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Burton extended his signature gothic style to a new generation, directing and producing for Netflix the popular TV series Wednesday (2022), and managed to make a comeback into the big screen with the blockbuster Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024).
