Teejay Arunasalam

Biography:

Playback singer and actor Teejay Arunasalam hails from Britain and has experience in Indian cinema, specifically in Tamil language productions. He debuted as an actor in the 2019 Tamil film Asuran opposite Dhanush. Since then, he has played important parts in the web series Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa (2022), Thatrom Thookrom (2020), and Pathu Thala (2023) costarring Silambarasan.

Teejay was introduced to music through Carnatic classes and his pursuit of a GCSE in music technology. He was born in the Northolt neighborhood of London to Tamil immigrants from Sri Lanka. His vocals on indie Tamil music albums in the early 2010s helped him become well-known in the European Tamil diaspora.In addition to UK vocalists Inno Genga and Arjun, he collaborated on CDs with US singer Pragathi Guruprasad. After that, he continued on to a university to get a degree in airport and airline administration before deciding to study music.

In August 2016, Teejay made an announcement that he would be making his acting debut in the Tamil film business with the cast and crew of Amsana, a low-budget love drama. After the movie was shelved, Teejay remained in Chennai to attempt pursuing a career in playback singing. Then, in December 2017, he was given the lead part of Thatrom Thookrom (2020) by director Arul, a debutante. Due to production delays, Teejay’s second feature was only released in restricted theaters in late 2020.

Teejay, who plays the son of Dhanush and Manju Warrier in Vetrimaaran’s Asuran (2019), received praise from critics for his performance as Velmurugan. After being recommended to Vetrimaaran by his friend, the actress Andrea Jeremiah, he was given a role in the movie. Teejay’s portrayal garnered favorable reviews. Later, he made an appearance in a short film directed by Balaji Mohan for the Amazon Prime anthology series Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa
