Tapas Relia

Biography:

Indian music composer and producer Tapas Relia was born on August 11, 1978. He is well-known for his commercials for Close-Up toothpaste, Domino’s Pizza, Amaron Batteries, the Indian Premier League, and Mahabharat.

He has been a resident of Mumbai since 1996 and has composed music for Bollywood movies, such as Hanuman, the country’s first big-budget animated picture, and the newly released Lakshmi, a film on child trafficking directed by the renowned Nagesh Kukunoor. He is based in Mumbai and runs his own recording studio.

A Gujarati couple who were originally from Surat but were now residing in Ahmedabad gave birth to Tapas Relia in Surat, Gujarat. He was born and raised in Ahmedabad, where he also completed his upper secondary education at St. Xavier’s High School in Loyola Hall.

He relocated to Mumbai in 1996 in order to pursue a career in music and additional education.He began studying Western classical music, focusing mostly on the piano, and completed seven grades at London’s Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

He also dabbled with commercial music at the same time as he taught himself how to program synthesisers and sequencers.He traveled to the US in 2000 to study summer courses in Composing for Film and Multimedia at New York University in New York City. After the course ended, he returned to India in the same year.

He began writing and arranging music for small-scale commercials, mostly for radio and corporations. His first significant break in mainstream advertising came with the Close-Up toothpaste jingle, Kya Aap Closeup Karte Hain. It was an enormous hit and is now regarded as one of the greatest jingles ever made.

Subsequently, he composed numerous advertisements and jingles for prominent brands and agencies. Some of these campaigns include the Amaron Batteries campaign, Domino’s Pizza Pizza Aaye Free campaign, Hero Honda (2010) campaign, and the IPL Mumbai Indians Anthem.

He also worked on several other advertising campaigns and promos for popular television shows such as Bigg Boss, MasterChef India, and Mahabharata (2013).
