Swara Bhasker

Biography:

Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker, whose name is often written Bhaskar, was born in India on April 9, 1988. She has been nominated for four Filmfare Awards and won two Screen Awards. She is most known for her supporting work in mainstream movies and her leading roles in independent films.

Swara made her big screen debut in the critically panned drama Madholal Keep Walking (2009). Her supporting performance in the critically acclaimed romantic comedy-drama Tanu Weds Manu (2011) helped her get further fame. She was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress after receiving positive reviews for her work in the movie.

Swara received additional recognition for her role in the highly regarded love drama Raanjhanaa (2013), which led to her being nominated for a second Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. She played Tanu Weds Manu again in the follow-up movie in 2015, and then she starred in the family drama Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Both of these movies were among the highest-grossing Bollywood films of the year.

She received more recognition for her leading parts in the independent flicks Anaarkali of Aarah (2017) and Nil Battey Sannata (2016). For the former, she received the Screen Award for Best Actress (Critics), while for the latter, she received a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress (Critics).

She received critical acclaim and a third nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the comedy-drama Veere Di Wedding in 2018. On April 9, 1988, inDelhi, Swara Bhasker was born into a family consisting of C. Uday Bhaskar, an Indian Navy officer of Telugu descent, and his wife Ira Bhaskar, a Bihari-origin professor of cinema studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. Varanasi was home to her maternal grandparents.

Bhasker was educated at Sardar Patel Vidyalaya while growing up in Delhi.  After that, she attended Miranda House at Delhi University to study English literature, where she was enrolled alongside actress Minissha Lamba. She completed her sociology master’s degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi.
