Sudhir Mishra, an esteemed Indian film director and screenwriter, is renowned for his directorial works such as “Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi,” “Dharavi,” and “Chameli.” With a career spanning over 30 years, Mishra’s contributions have been acknowledged by the Government of India with three National Awards and he has been honored as Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government.
Born on January 22, 1959, in Lucknow, Sudhir Mishra hails from a prestigious background as the grandson of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dwarka Prasad Mishra. He was raised in an environment deeply connected to cinema, as his father, Devendra Nath Mishra, was a founding member of the Lucknow Film Society.
Mishra’s journey in filmmaking began with experiences alongside renowned directors like Kundan Shah, Saeed Akhtar Mirza, and Vidhu Vinod Chopra. He made his directorial debut with “Yeh Woh Manzil To Nahin” in 1987, which earned him the National Film Award for Best First Film of a Director.
Throughout his career, Mishra has crafted notable films including “Dharavi,” “Main Zinda Hoon,” “Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin,” “Chameli,” and “Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi,” which delves into the Naxalite movement. His adaptation of Devdas titled “Daas Dev” in 2018, followed by the modern adaptation of the popular Israeli show “Hostages,” demonstrated his versatility as a storyteller.
In his latest endeavors, Mishra ventured into adaptations, including the adaptation of Manu Joseph’s award-winning novel “Serious Men” for Netflix India And Afwaah in 2023. The films received praise for its subtle satire and complex storytelling, earning accolades.
