Stephen Lang is an American actor who was born on July 11, 1952. He rose to prominence in James Cameron’s Avatar (2009) as the primary antagonist Colonel Miles Quaritch, for which he received the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor. In the 2022 follow-up Avatar: The Way of Water, Lang played the same part again.
Don’t Breathe (2016) and its sequel Don’t Breathe 2 (2021), Conan the Barbarian (2011), Gods and Generals (2003), Public Enemies, The Men Who Stare at Goats (all 2009), Manhunter (1986), Last Exit to Brooklyn (1989), Gettysburg and Tombstone (all 1993), and others are among Lang’s other well-known cinematic appearances.
He has appeared on television as David Cord on The Good Fight (2021), Waldo on Into the Badlands (2015–18), and Commander Nathaniel Taylor on Terra Nova (2011). He has a long Broadway career in addition to his movie performances. For his role in the 1992 production of The Speed of Darkness, he received a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play. For his one-man play Beyond Glory, he has also received nominations for the Lucille Lortel Award, the Helen Hayes Award, and the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards. He served as the Actors Studio’s co-artistic director from 2004 to 2006.
