Sohail Sen is an Indian singer, musician, and film composer who works in Bollywood. He was born on June 24, 1984. He made his film composing debut with the largely unrecognized Hindi film Sirf (2008). With his critically lauded composition for What’s Your Raashee? (2009), he later rose to prominence as a Hindi film composer. His popular soundtracks for Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Ek Tha Tiger, and Gunday are also well-known.
Sen is the fourth generation of his family to work as a film composer, and his family has a long history of musicians who have worked in the motion picture business. His paternal grandpa Shri Shambhu Sen’s singing and his father Sameer Sen (of the music director combo Dilip Sen-Sameer Sen) have always had a significant impact on him.
At age six, Sen began taking music lessons. As a child, he learned to play the tabla. Later, he studied the piano, drums, and rhythm instruments, among other musical instruments. His grandpa, Shri Shambhu Sen, taught him classical music. At the tender age of thirteen, he started his career as a music director by writing the music for the telefilm Roshni, which featured playback by well-known vocalist Kavita Krishnamurthy.
