Sharda Sinha

Biography:

Sharda Sinha, born on October 1, 1952, is a prominent Indian folk and classical singer renowned for her contributions in Maithili and Bhojpuri music. Originating from Bihar, she has carved a significant niche for herself in the realm of regional music with specialties in songs like “Vivah Geet” and “Chhath Geet.” Her musical excellence was honored with the Padma Shri award in 1991 and the prestigious Padma Bhushan in 2018, acknowledgments for her immense contribution to the world of music.

Hailing from Hulas in the Supaul district of Bihar, Sharda began her musical journey by delving into Maithili folk songs. Her repertoire includes singing in Bhojpuri, Maithili, Magahi, and Hindi. She has performed numerous songs highlighting the theme of the spring season during the Basant Mahotsava organized by Prayag Sangeet Samiti.

Sinha is celebrated for her spirited performances during the Chhath Puja festivities, offering renditions that add vibrancy to the occasion. Her musical talents have been showcased on various platforms, including performances during significant events like the Bihar Utsav at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
