Biography:

Shakti Kapoor is an Indian actor who has been a prominent figure in the Bollywood film industry. He was born on September 3, 1952, in Delhi, India. Kapoor is known for his versatile acting skills and has often played characters that range from comedic to villainous.

He made his acting debut in the film “Do Jasoos” in 1975 but gained recognition with his role in the film “Qurbani” (1980). Shakti Kapoor has been a part of numerous Hindi films and is often associated with playing comic and over-the-top characters as well as negative roles.

During his early days in Bollywood, Shakti Kapoor embarked on his journey by taking up minor roles in movies while actively seeking a suitable opportunity to step into a leading role. His debut in the industry came with the film “Khel Khilari Ka” in 1977, a movie that featured Dharmendra and Hema Malini. The turning point for Shakti Kapoor arrived during the years 1980-81 when he established his presence as an actor with antagonist roles in two significant films, “Qurbani” and “Rocky.” Subsequently, in 1983, he continued his villainous streak with roles in “Himmatwala” and the Subhash Ghai directed film “Hero.”

As the 1990s unfolded, Kapoor expanded his repertoire by venturing into positive comic roles, demonstrating his versatility in movies like “Raja Babu.” His adeptness in these roles earned him recognition, including a Filmfare Award nomination in the Best Comedian category. Notably, he won the award for his portrayal of Nandu in David Dhawan’s “Raja Babu.” Some of his notable comic portrayals include Inspector Bhinde in “Insaaf,” Prasad in “Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri,” Crime Master Gogo in “Andaz Apna Apna,” Tohfa, Batuknath in “ChaalBaaz,” and Goonga in “Bol Radha Bol.”

Kapoor’s distinctive style and dialogues, such as “Aaaooo Lolita” from “Tohfa,” “Main Nanha sa Chotta sa Bachcha Hoon” from “Chaalbaaz,” and “Nandu sabka bandhu, samajhta nahi hai yaar” from “Raja Babu,” have made him a reference point for mimicry artists. Since the 2000s, he has become a regular fixture in Priyadarshan’s films like “Hungama,” “Hulchul,” “Chup Chup Ke,” “Malamaal Weekly,” and the Malayalam remake “Bhagam Bhag.” He has also acted in Bengali, Odia, and Assamese films, alongside participating in reality television shows like “Bigg Boss 5” in 2011. Additionally, he shared the screen with his sister-in-law Padmini Kolhapure in the musical comedy “Aasman Se Gire Khajoor Pe Atke.” Notably, Kapoor is also the brand ambassador for Servokon.

Shakti Kapoor has also appeared in supporting roles and character roles in numerous other films over the years. He is known for his distinctive voice and his ability to adapt to various types of roles. While he has been appreciated for his comic timing and performances, he has also faced criticism for roles that stereotype and objectify women.
