Sam Levinson is an American film director, screenwriter, producer, and actor famous for creating strikingly visual and emotional stories. The actor began his career with acting roles but soon shifted towards screenwriting and directing works about identity, addiction, relationships, trauma, and modern youth culture. He made his directorial debut with the psychological drama Another Happy Day (2011) and later directed such films as Assassination Nation (2018), Malcolm & Marie (2021), and The Idol (2023).
Levinson received international fame as the creator, writer, director, and executive producer of HBO’s highly successful teen drama Euphoria (2019-present). The award-winning show became a sensation across the globe due to its striking visuals and characters along with the fearless approach to discussing mental health issues, addictions, sexuality, identity, and the problems of modern teens. He co-created another drama series for HBO, The Idol (2023), with Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye and Reza Fahim.
