Actress Roopa, also referred to as Roopa Devi, is from India and has acted in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada films. She is the child of legendary actress Advani Lakshmi Devi and Kalyanam Raghuramaiah. She rose to fame as the lead actress in the 365-day Tamil love tragedy Oru Thalai Ragam, in which she was coupled with rookie Shankar. In 1984–85, Roopa won the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the film Avala Antharanga. Devi’s 1980s work was mostly in Kannada films. In 1979, she made her feature film debut in the experimental film Kamala, where she played a prostitute, earning her widespread praise from critics.
She made her feature film debut in Simha Jodi in 1980, when she portrayed Vishnuvardhan’s sister. From 1983 until 1987, she was the preferred choice for supporting and second lead parts in Kannada films. Haalu Jenu, Mullina Gulabi, Bandhana, Avala Antharanga, Marali Goodige, Trishoola, Aahuthi, Dharma, and Bala Nouke are some of her well-known Kannada films. Her portrayal in Avala Antharanga earned her the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress (1984–85).
Almost all of the top Kannada actors of the day, such as Dr. Rajkumar, Kalyan Kumar, Vishnuvardhan, Srinath, Ambareesh, Anant Nag, Shankar Nag, and Lokesh, have collaborated with her. In the critically and commercially successful films Haalu Jenu, Samayada Gombe, and Yarivanu, she was paired with matinee idol Dr. Rajkumar.
