Norwegian film director Roar Uthaug was born on August 25, 1973. In 2002, he received his degree from the Norwegian Film School. The Martin Administration, Uthaug’s graduation film, was the second Norwegian student film ever nominated for the Student Academy Awards by AMPAS (the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Science).
Uthaug has directed a number of Norwegian TV advertisements and music videos for Gåte, Furia, Unni Wilhelmsen, and Vidar Busk while working at the Norwegian production company Fantefilm. On October 13, 2006, his first feature film, Fritt Vilt (Cold Prey), was released in Norway. The Wave, a catastrophe movie from 2015, was his most renowned work. The 2018 cinematic reboot, Tomb Raider, which starred Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, was directed by Uthaug and released on March 16.[2)[3) He was the director of Troll in 2022. On December 1, 2022, it became available on Netflix. He directed the 2025 film Troll 2, which was a direct follow-up to the 2025 film Troll. On December 1, 2025, it became available on Netflix.
