Biography:

Ranjith K. Govind, also known as K.G. Ranjith, is a versatile Indian playback singer renowned for his contributions to the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada film industries. Born on February 21, 1977, in Chennai, India, he comes from a Malayali family with roots in Kalluvazhi, Kerala.

Growing up in an environment filled with diverse music influences, Ranjith began his musical journey by participating in local programs. Recognizing his potential, a family friend suggested formal training in classical music. He received guidance in Hindustani and Carnatic music from esteemed teachers such as Vidwan Cuddalore Subramanian, K. S. Kanakasingam, Trichur P. Ramankutty, and P. S. Narayana Swamy. His breakthrough came in 2001 when he won the Sun TV Saptha Swarangal singing contest.

Ranjith’s playback singing career commenced when Mani Sharma introduced him in the Telugu film “Bobby” (2002), where he collaborated with Hariharan for the song “Adugu Adugu.” His entry into Tamil cinema happened with the song “Hey Penne” from “Aasai Aasaiyai” (2002). However, it was the track “Suppose” from the film “Sukran” (2005) that catapulted him to popularity.

In 2007, Ranjith made his mark in Malayalam cinema with the song “Innoru Paattonnu Paadaan” from “Kilukkam Kilukilukkam.” His versatile talent earned him a nomination for Best Male Playback Singer at the 56th Filmfare Awards South for the Telugu song “Entavaraku” from “Gamyam” (2009).

Beyond playback singing, Ranjith showcased his compositional skills in the album “Saranam Ayyappa” (2005), featuring an ensemble of Ayyappa Namaskara Slokas. He also composed and arranged music for the dance ensemble “Panchamukhi.” Ranjith has collaborated with prominent music directors like Yuvan Shankar Raja and Vidyasagar in the Tamil film industry.

Throughout his illustrious career, Ranjith has sung over 2500 songs, leaving an indelible mark on the South Indian music scene. He is married to Reshmi Menon, a trained Bharata Naatiyam dancer, and they have a daughter and a son.
