French cinematographer Philippe Rousselot, AFC, ASC was born on September 4, 1945, and is renowned for his extensive body of work in mainstream American and European cinema, encompassing action, fantasy, and drama.
In addition to being nominated for the Palme d’Or, he has won three César Awards, a BAFTA, and an Oscar. Briey, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France, is where Rousselot was born.
He attended l’École Louis Lumière to study film and graduated in 1966 with Jean-François Robin, François About, Eduardo Serra, and Noël Very. After serving as Néstor Almendros’s assistant for a while, he soon rose to the position of chief operator.
He received three César Awards for Best Cinematography for Diva, Thérèse, and Queen Margot, and the Academy Award for Best Cinematography in 1992 for his work on A River Runs Through It.
