NS Uthaya Kumar was born and raised in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, making him a true native of the state. He completed his education at Anjuham Higher Secondary School in the West Mambalam area, where he first discovered his artistic inclinations.
Kumar enrolled in the Government School of Fine Arts (formerly the Madras School of Art) because he loved music, movies, and books. Established in 1850 as a private arts school and college by surgeon Alexander Hunter, this establishment is reputed to be the oldest in the entire nation.
This is the same school that turned forth a number of the public’s all-time favorites, including the painter and actor Sivakumar, the artist K.M. Adimoolam, and numerous more well-known figures. Kumar had the advantage of having graduated from the renowned Government School of Arts’ Visual Communication program, which allowed him to gain the experience he needed to break into the Tamil film business in 2004 right out of college.
But the majority of his creations from that decade are either lost to history or unaccounted for. His marriage in 2013 was the catalyst for his contribution to Tamil cinema. He became recognized as one of the most inventive cinematographers in the business by selecting to serve as director of photography for each of his films. The albums Aal (issued in 2014), Metro (released in 2016), and Kurangu Bommai (released in 2017) are among his best-known works.
The first film on this list, Aal, tells the story of a guy who is forced to perform horrible things by a terrorist organization. Although it did not receive great reviews, people were happy with Kumar’s 2016 blockbuster Metro because it offered a unique perspective on the social order of ordinary life. The film is widely praised for being realistic and “hard-hitting,” as the director appears to be revealing to the viewer the inner workings of the routine life we have grown so accustomed to.
With this project, Kumar was able to collaborate with well-known people such as the film’s director, Ananda Krishnan, and gained enough recognition to have his work recognized as some of the best in the business. Kurangu Bommai, his most recent movie, was a heart-stopper for viewers thanks to its dramatic approaches, surprising turns, and superb performances. Kumar has always had an excellent team to work with, and this has helped him along his journey to success.
