Anupam Roy, born on March 29, 1982, in Kolkata, India, is a versatile artist known for his roles as a singer-songwriter, music director, composer, lyricist, guitarist, and playback singer. His musical journey took off with his debut in the Bengali film Autograph (2010), featuring the songs “Amake Amar Moto Thakte Dao” and “Benche Thakar Gaan,” establishing him as a notable figure in the Bengali music industry.
In 2015, Anupam Roy made his Bollywood debut as a music director, singer, and lyricist for the film Piku, directed by Shoojit Sircar. This marked a significant milestone in his career, earning him a nomination for the 61st Filmfare Award for Best Music Director and winning the 61st Filmfare Award for Best Background Score for Piku. With four Filmfare Awards to his credit, he also received the 64th National Film Award for Best Lyrics for the song “Tumi Jaake Bhalobasho.”
Anupam’s musical contributions extend beyond films, with four solo albums to his name. His debut album, “Durbine Chokh Rakhbona” (2012), features tracks like “Bijli Baati” and “Tistaan,” along with the original version of “Benche Thakar Gaan.” Subsequent albums include “Dwitiyo Purush” (2013), featuring the music video of “Adbhut Mugdhota,” and “Bakyobageesh” (2014). In 2015, he marked his first Live Concert in Mumbai.
As an independent artist, Anupam Roy and his band released the English single “Second Sex” in May 2013. His venture into Coke Studio (India) in 2015 showcased his skill in recreating Lalon Fakir’s “Moner Manush” with an additional Hindi verse penned and composed by him.
Further expanding his reach, Anupam contributed two songs to the Hindi film Pink (2016) and worked on compositions for Hindi films like Running Shaadi (2017) and Dear Maya.
On February 14, 2017, Anupam released his fourth studio album, “Ebar Morle Gachh Hawbo,” featuring songs such as “Amar Shohor,” “Oestrogen,” “Choitrer Kafon,” “Rock n Roll,” and “Byatha Lage.” His fifth album, “Adrishya Nagordolar Trip,” released in 2023, contains eight songs interpreted by ten artists through eight art forms, showcasing his continued artistic evolution.
