Nivas K. Prasanna

Biography:

Indian singer-music director Nivas K. Prasanna is employed in the Tamil cinema business. Nivas was born and raised in the South Tamil Nadu town of Tirunelveli, India. He started studying Carnatic music at the age of eleven and finished all seven piano classes at the Magdalene Matriculation Higher Secondary School in the town.

After that, he and his family relocated to Chennai, where he enrolled in the SRM Institute of Science and Technology’s Visual Communications program and started aggressively looking for work in the film and music industries.

Nivas was selected by Rajesh Vaidhya to play keyboards for him throughout his travels, which allowed him to collaborate on short film soundtracks and network with other young professionals. Additionally, he collaborated with singer Saindhavi on the musical album Kannamma, which was inspired by Bharathiyar’s teachings and won over Think Music producer Santhosh.

After that, Santhosh suggested that he compose the soundtrack for Pizza II: Villa (2013), but Nivas was ultimately passed over. Later, Santhosh invited Nivas to collaborate on Ramesh’s murder mystery film, Thegidi (2014). This production marked Nivas’s debut.

Thegidi’s soundtrack garnered praise for its quality, and the movie’s box office performance brought recognition to Nivas K. Prasanna’s contributions. He collaborated with vocalists Abhay Jodhpurkar, Andrea Jeremiah, and Shankar Mahadevan on the album. In addition, the composer gave a performance at the awards ceremony and was given the Behindwoods Gold Award for Find of the Year.

Reviewers had different opinions on his second album, Sethupathi (2016); The Hindu called it a “cop-out”. According to reports, Nivas has been signed on to compose the music for Kumki-2, the follow-up to Kumki. This is the first time that filmmaker Prabhu Soloman has collaborated with a different music director, as D. Imman composed the music for all of his prior films.
