Nishikant Kamat was an Indian filmmaker. He gained acclaim in Marathi cinema with his debut film, “Dombivali Fast,” which emerged as the biggest Marathi film of its year. The success led him to remake the film in Tamil as “Evano Oruvan,” starring R. Madhavan, which received rave reviews. Additionally, Kamat acted in the Marathi film “Saatchya Aat Gharat.”
In Bollywood, his debut project was “Mumbai Meri Jaan,” which depicted the 2006 Mumbai Bombings. He directed the popular film “Force,” featuring John Abraham and marking the debut of Vidyut Jamwal. This movie, a remake of the Tamil film “Kaakha Kaakha,” garnered significant attention. Kamat also portrayed a negative role in the film “Rocky Handsome.”
Kamat, hailing from Mumbai, was born on 17 June 1970 into a Marathi family. He is an alumnus of Mumbai’s Wilson College and Ramnarain Ruia College and gained prominence in the amateur theatre circuit. Sadly, he passed away at the age of 50 on 17 August 2020 due to cirrhosis and complications related to COVID-19.
