Nicholas Kharkongor
Biography:
Nicholas Kharkongor is a director and filmmaker who has contributed significantly to independent Hindi cinema and digital entertainment. He has had an illustrious career in theater, where he was a playwright and director. Nicholas began working in films by directing the short film Fair and Lowly (2012). However, he made his directorial debut in 2017 with the film Mantra, which focuses on how economic liberalization affects an Indian family. In 2019, Nicholas came to public recognition with the movie Axone. It is a comedy-drama that depicts issues of racism and identity through the eyes of Northeastern immigrants residing in Delhi. The movie debuted in the BFI London Film Festival and then was distributed on Netflix.
After his successful foray into movies, Nicholas Kharkongor turned his attention to digital entertainment and became a director of the coming-of-age web series Jhansi Ka Rajkumar (2024) and later a web series Maa Ka Sum. He is known for his character-centered plots, subtle humor, and exploration of such themes as identity, belonging, and change of the society.
