Born into the influential Nandamuri family, Taraka Ratna actively supported the Telugu Desam Party, aspiring to serve his people. After a valiant fight against health complications, he tragically passed away on February 18, 2023, at 39, leaving behind a legacy of talent and dedication.
Born in Hyderabad in 1983, Nandamuri Taraka Ratna was surrounded by the magic of cinema from a young age. His father, Mohan Krishna, was a skilled cinematographer, and his grandfather, the legendary N.T. Rama Rao, graced the silver screen and even served as Andhra Pradesh’s chief minister. With such a cinematic lineage, it’s no surprise that creativity resonated in Taraka Ratna.
He was fondly called Obu by his family, including cousin actors Kalyan Ram and Jr. N.T.R., and reportedly harbored political aspirations, aiming to follow in his family’s footsteps in serving the people. Though his journey on this path was tragically cut short, Taraka Ratna’s spirit and legacy continued to resonate within his close-knit family and the film industry he loved.
Bursting onto the scene in 2002 with the K. Raghavendra Rao-helmed Okato Number Kurraadu, Taraka Ratna made a record-breaking debut by signing nine lead roles simultaneously! Films like Yuva Rathna, Taarak, and Bhadradri Ramudu followed, showcasing his versatility. He even earned a Nandi Award for his captivating antagonist performance in Amaravathi. Over the years, Taraka Ratna donned various hats, playing heroes and villains with equal flair in films like Nandeeswarudu, Maha Bhaktha Siriyala, Venkatadri, Kakatheeyudu, and Devineni. He even delved into the digital world with the web series 9 Hours. Beyond his filmography, Taraka Ratna’s talent and dedication left an enduring mark on the Telugu film industry and the hearts of fans.
On August 2, 2012, Taraka Ratna wed Alekhya Reddy at Sanghi Temple. Their love story began on a film set. Despite opposition, they married with few attendees. They became a family of five, with a daughter in 2013 and later twin siblings.
Tragically, Taraka Ratna’s life took an unexpected turn during a political event on January 27, 2023. He suffered a health crisis and was rushed to a local hospital. After initial treatment, he was transferred to a specialized cardiac center in Bangalore for further care.
Despite receiving comprehensive medical support, including advanced procedures, Taraka Ratna sadly passed away on February 18, 2023, at the age of 39. He bravely fought for 23 days before succumbing to the illness.
His passing sent shockwaves through the Telugu film industry and beyond. Fans were given the opportunity to pay their respects before his cremation at Jubilee Hills Mahaprasthanam.
