The White Tiger (2021) and the music album Stray are the two projects that Mukul Deora, an Indian film producer, musician, and entrepreneur, is most renowned for. He was born in Mumbai on July 12, 1974. Serial entrepreneur Deora has created workspaces, produced and distributed films, and worked in digital content storage and packaging technologies. TED Talks India, Tate Modern, and Serpentine Gallery have all hosted performances by this multi-media artist. The rights to the highly successful Gajapati Kulapati book series were purchased by Deora in 2023.
Deora created and produced Bheja Fry 2, which starred Vinak Pathak and Kay Kay Menon, in 2011. Since then, he has used his company Watchtower Pictures to distribute over 40 films. After obtaining the rights to the Man Booker Prize-winning book The White Tiger, Deora collaborated with Netflix to develop and produce The White Tiger, the book’s cinematic version.
Written and directed by Ramin Bahrani (Fahrenheit 451 and 99 Homes), The White Tiger is a drama film scheduled for release in 2021. Key parts in the movie are portrayed by Adarsh Gourav, the celebrated actor Rajkummar Rao (Stree, Bareily Ki Barfi, Newton), and the international sensation Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Isn’t it Romantic, A Kid Like Jake, The Sky Is Pink).
The plot revolves around Balram, who hails from an impoverished Indian hamlet and utilizes his wits and guile to transcend poverty, and is an adaptation of Aravind Adiga’s 2008 novel of the same name. In its first four weeks on Netflix, the movie ranked #1 in 64 countries and was watched by 27 million households.
