Minatozaki Sana (Hepburn: Minatozaki; Japanese: Sana (born December 29, 1996) is a Japanese singer living in South Korea who goes by the moniker Sana (Korean: ; Japanese: ). The South Korean girl group Twice was founded in 2015 by JYP Entertainment, and she is one of its three Japanese members.
Sana, an only child, was born on December 29, 1996 in Tennji-ku, Osaka, Japan.
Sana declared early on that she wanted to be a singer and dancer, and the K-pop group Girls’ Generation served as her inspiration. She speaks Korean in addition to her native Japanese.
Sana joined EXPG’s training program in Osaka in 2009 with the intention of becoming a singer in Japan rather than South Korea. She was discovered by a JYP Entertainment (JYPE) employee during her middle school years at a mall and invited to take part in the annual JYP Japan audition the following day. Sana joined the JYPE trainee program in South Korea in April 2012 after passing the audition[9]. Before making her professional debut with Twice, she trained for more than three years. She was slated to join a four-person girl group in 2012 that was targeted at the Japanese market, but the group’s plans were shelved in part because of tensions between Japan and Korea during the Liancourt Rocks dispute.
she was later scheduled to debut in a six-member group called 6Mix, but the group’s debut was also cancelled due to the sinking of MV Sewol. In 2014, Sana appeared in Got7’s music video for “A” as a waitress.
