Chinese actress Meng’er Zhang born April 22, 1987 is well recognised for her role as Xu Xialing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021). Zhang is the daughter of a stage designer and a performer. To follow in her mother’s footsteps, she was deeply committed to theatre arts throughout her childhood. She performed in stage and musical plays in Shanghai and Nanjing, where she was born and raised, before turning to acting professionally. She received her bachelor’s degree from Nanjing University of the Arts in 2009. She studied at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts in Moscow and the East 15 Acting School in Essex.
