Manimaran, widely recognized as Ghilli Maran, was an Indian actor and singer whose primary claim to fame came from his comedic roles in films. He was born on June 4, 1972, in the Naththam area of Chengalpet district, born to Naagammal and Nagappan. Maran grew up in a large family with two sisters and four brothers. He tied the knot with Clara Manimaran, and together, they had a daughter named Nivya Angel.
In the realm of his professional journey, Maran commenced his cinematic career with a minor role in the 2002 film “Ezhumalai.” However, his breakthrough moment arrived when he portrayed a kabaddi player in the 2004 film “Ghilli,” directed by Dharani, which achieved remarkable success at the box office. Notably, he is remembered for his role as Vijay’s friend in this sports drama. His performance as a henchman alongside veteran comedian Vadivelu in “Thalainagaram” also received praise from the audience. Even following his passing, Maran’s presence continued onscreen with posthumous appearances in movies like “Sarpatta Parambarai” and “Anti Indian.”
Tragically, Maran succumbed to COVID-19 on May 12, 2021, at the age of 48. He had been undergoing treatment at the Chengalpet Government Hospital and had been hospitalized two days prior to his untimely demise.
