Biography:

Madhuri Dixit Nene is an acclaimed Indian actress predominantly known for her work in Hindi cinema. She has starred in over 70 films and is recognized for her beauty, dancing prowess, and compelling characters. Noted for matching the stature of her male co-stars in a male-dominated industry, Dixit was one of the highest-paid celebrities in India during the 1990s and early 2000s. She has consistently been featured in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list since it began in 2012. Her extensive accolades include six Filmfare Awards out of a record 17 nominations, and in 2008, she was honored with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award.

Dixit debuted in 1984 with the drama Abodh. After several initial box office failures, she rose to fame with the 1988 action drama Tezaab and solidified her position with hits like Dil (1990), Beta (1992), Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), and Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), earning four Filmfare Best Actress Awards for these films. Her other notable successes from this era include Ram Lakhan (1989), Tridev (1989), Thanedaar (1990), Kishen Kanhaiya (1990), Saajan (1991), Khalnayak (1993), and Raja (1995).

Beyond mainstream success, Dixit has been praised for her roles in Prem Pratigyaa (1989), Parinda (1989), Anjaam (1994), Mrityudand (1997), Pukar (2000), and Lajja (2001). She received the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Chandramukhi in Devdas (2002). After a hiatus, she briefly returned with Aaja Nachle (2007) and continued to act sporadically. Her highest-grossing film to date is the adventure comedy Total Dhamaal (2019), and she has received acclaim for her roles in Dedh Ishqiya (2014) and the Netflix series The Fame Game (2022). During this time, she also served as a judge on dance reality shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.

Born on May 15, 1967, in Mumbai into a Marathi Kokanastha Brahmin family, Dixit developed an early interest in dance. She began training in Kathak at the age of three and went on to become a professionally trained Kathak dancer. She has two elder sisters and an elder brother. Dixit has been married to Shriram Nene since 1999, and they have two sons, Arin and Ryan.

In addition to her film career, Dixit is active in philanthropy. Since 2014, she has collaborated with UNICEF to advocate for children’s rights and combat child labor. She also participates in concert tours and stage shows and co-founded the production company RnM Moving Pictures.
