Indian actress and model Madhu Shalini predominantly appears in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi movies. In 2005, she was crowned Miss Andhra Pradesh. After winning the Dream Girl competition, she presented the television program Premakathalu.
Hyderabad, India is the birthplace of Madhu Shalini. Her mother Polapragada Raj Kumari is a classical dancer and an advocate, while her father Hameed is a businessman. Similar to her mother, she studied Kuchipudi before competing in a beauty pageant, which she won and used to launch a modeling career.
She briefly worked as a television anchor before making the transition to acting in movies. She made her debut in a feature film with the 2006 release of E. V. V. Satyanarayana’s Kithakithalu, which starred Allari Naresh and was a huge commercial success. She had further appearances in two Telugu movies that same year, including Aganthakudu and Teja’s ensemble piece Oka V Chitram. In 2007, she starred in State Rowdy, a remake of the popular Tamil film Aethiree directed by K. S. Ravikumar, in which Madhu Shalini took on the role of a Brahmin girl who had been played by Kanika in the original. Later that year, she made her Tamil cinema debut with the low-budget drama Pazhaniappa Kalloori.
She eventually agreed to participate as the lead female in D. Sabhapathy’s Telugu film Happy Journey and his upcoming Tamil film Pathinaaru, which, although being significantly delayed, became her next release. Despite the film’s mixed reception and mediocre box office result, Madhu Shalini’s portrayal of Indhu got praise from critics who noted that she carried out her part “with consummate ease,” was “adequate in her role,” and played “like a pro.”
She made her Bollywood début in Ram Gopal Varma’s Department, which also starred Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, and Sanjay Dutt as gangsters. Later that year, she once more worked with Ram Gopal Varma on the horror film Bhoot Returns, and two years later, they both contributed to the psychological thriller Anukshanam. Gopala Gopala will include Madhu Shalini as a reporter. Last but not least, she played the nurse Esther in the Tamil film Thoongavanam and the character Seetha in Seethavalokanam.
