Born on May 6, 1951, in Chennai, India, she received her training in Bharatanatyam, a classical dance form, under the guidance of the legendary Rukmini Devi Arundale at Kalakshetra. With grace and expressive artistry, Samson became a celebrated Bharatanatyam dancer, captivating audiences in India and abroad.

Beyond her remarkable performances, Leela Samson is renowned for her contributions as a choreographer and administrator. She served as the Director of Kalakshetra, an institution dedicated to preserving traditional Indian arts, from 2005 to 2012. Her tenure focused on upholding and promoting the cultural heritage taught at the institution.
