Krishna Kulasekaran, credited as Krishna, is an Indian actor primarily known for his work in Tamil cinema. Born on February 14, 1978, he hails from a film-oriented family, with his father being film producer K.K. Sekar (Pattiyal Sekar) and his elder brother, Vishnuvardhan, a renowned film director. Krishna pursued his education at St. Bede’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Chennai, followed by studies at Loyola College. He completed his academic journey with an MBA in finance in the United States. Prior to his acting career, Krishna briefly worked in the IT industry and ventured into entrepreneurship. He also underwent training in Jazz dance and worked as a dancer and choreographer before leaving for the United States.
Krishna made his early foray into acting with notable appearances in films like Mani Ratnam’s “Anjali,” “Iruvar,” and Santosh Sivan’s “The Terrorist.” He was originally cast to play the younger version of Rajinikanth’s character in “Thalapathi” but the role was later dropped due to concerns about the film’s length. He also had a small role in “Udhaya” (2004). His first leading role came in “Alibhabha,” a film produced by his father. Although the movie received favorable reviews, it did not achieve commercial success. Following this, Krishna had plans to star in a gangster film titled “Madras,” but the project was shelved due to disagreements between the director and producer. Subsequently, he appeared in films like “Kattradhu Kalavu” (2010) and “Kazhugu” (2012), both of which were also produced by his father. “Kazhugu” garnered positive responses, especially for Krishna’s role as someone who recovers the bodies of suicide victims.
In his career, Krishna has been part of various genres, including horror comedies like “Yaamirukka Bayamey” (2014) and action comedies like “Yatchan” (2015), directed by his brother Vishnuvardhan. He made a comeback in 2017 with several thriller releases, including “Yaakkai,” “Pandigai,” “Nibunan,” and “Vizhithiru.” In 2018, he appeared in films like “Veera,” “Kalari,” and “Maari 2.” Krishna also starred in “Kazhugu 2” (2019), a sequel to the 2012 film “Kazhugu.” However, the sequel received mixed reviews from audiences and critics alike.
