Kiran Kumar, originally named Deepak Dhar and born on October 20, 1953, is an Indian actor renowned for his contributions to both screen and theatre. He has been part of numerous Hindi, Bhojpuri, and Gujarati television and film projects. His most recent theatrical endeavor is the drama titled “Charlie 2.”
Kiran Kumar hails from an esteemed Kashmiri Pandit family, with a great-grandfather who held the prestigious position of governing the Gilgit Agency as its Wazir-e-Wazarat. His lineage is steeped in nobility. He is the son of the veteran actor Jeevan.
His educational journey included attending Daly College, a boarding school in Indore, followed by enrollment at R.D. National College in Bandra, Mumbai. Later, he pursued his passion for acting by joining the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune. During his time at FTII, he was affectionately known as “Deepak Dhar” among his peers.
Kiran Kumar made his debut in the film “Do Boond Pani” in 1971 and subsequently played leading roles in several other movies. Although he faced setbacks with films like “Jangal Mein Mangal,” he made a remarkable comeback in Hindi cinema with Rakesh Roshan’s “Khudgarz.” His portrayal of negative characters in films like “Tezaab” and “Khuda Gawah” earned him accolades for his portrayal of antiheroes.
He ventured into television with one of his early series being with Cinevistas, under the guidance of Sunil Mehta and Prem Kishen. Over the years, Kiran Kumar has firmly established himself as a prominent figure in the Indian television industry, with roles in series such as “Zindagi,” “Ghutan,” “Sahil,” “Manzil,” “Grihasti,” “Katha Sagar,” “Aur Phir Ek Din,” “Papa,” “Miilee,” and “Chhajje Chajje Ka Pyar.”
In his most recent film appearance, Kiran Kumar acted in “Brothers,” alongside Akshay Kumar, Jackie Shroff, and Siddharth Malhotra. Prior to that, he played the character Anees Khan in Born Free Production’s “Bobby Jasoos.” Additionally, he took on the role of the lead antagonist in Soham Shah’s forthcoming release, “Sher,” alongside Sanjay Dutt (though the film has faced delays due to Dutt’s recent incarceration).
