Kavita Krishnamurthy, also known as Kavita Subramaniam, is a famous singer from India. She was born on January 25, 1958, in New Delhi. She grew up in a family that appreciated music, and she started learning songs when she was young. Her aunt taught her a special kind of music called Rabindra Sangeet, and later, she learned classical Indian music.
When Kavita moved to Mumbai in the 1970s, she began her singing career. She started by recording songs for Bengali movies and also worked behind the scenes as a dubbing artist. Her talent caught the attention of a well-known singer named Manna Dey, who helped her get opportunities to sing advertisements.
Her big break came when she met a famous music director named Laxmikant. He recognized her talent and gave her a chance to sing her first song in 1976. After that, she became very successful in singing for movies.
Kavita’s singing career was not limited to just one language or type of music. She sang in many Indian languages like Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, and more. Her voice was loved by many, and she won awards for her singing, including four Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer Awards in the mid-1990s. In 2005, she was honored with the Padmashri, a prestigious award in India, for her amazing contribution to music.
Apart from her singing career, Kavita got married to a famous violinist named L. Subramaniam in 1999. They live together in Bengaluru. Kavita Krishnamurthy’s beautiful voice and her ability to sing in different languages made her a very popular and respected singer in India.
