Kamlesh Pandey

Kamlesh Pandey, a distinguished Indian screenwriter, boasts an illustrious career spanning over three decades in advertising, two decades in films, and fourteen years in television. Originating from Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, he currently calls Mumbai home, the bustling hub of India’s entertainment industry.

Pandey embarked on his professional journey in 1970, commencing as a Copywriter with Hindustan Thompson Associates. His expertise and talent quickly propelled him through the ranks, leading to significant roles at esteemed agencies like Sista’s (now Saatchi & Saatchi) and Grant Advertising Pvt. Ltd. (now Contract Advertising). However, it was his tenure at Rediffusion Advertising Pvt. Ltd. (now Rediffusion DY&R) from 1976 to 1992 that truly solidified his reputation as a creative force. Under his leadership as Head of Creative Department, Rediffusion experienced unparalleled success, earning Pandey widespread acclaim within the advertising industry.

Throughout his advertising career, Pandey collaborated with leading corporations such as Colgate-Palmolive, Maruti, Airtel, and BPL, crafting memorable campaigns that resonated with audiences nationwide. His exceptional talent garnered numerous accolades, including the prestigious CAG Hall of Fame honor in 2005, a testament to his enduring impact and contribution to the field.

Parallel to his advertising endeavors, Pandey ventured into screenplay writing for films in 1987, seamlessly blending his creative talents across different mediums. Over the years, he penned over 40 films, many of which achieved blockbuster status. Notable among his cinematic achievements are “Tezaab,” recipient of the Filmfare Award, “Saudagar,” honored at the Star Screen Awards, and “Rang De Basanti,” recognized with an IIFA Award.

In addition to his cinematic endeavors, Pandey remains actively involved in various industry associations, including the Film Writers Association, Mumbai, and the Indian Documentary Producers Association. He also shares his wealth of knowledge and experience as a visiting faculty member, teaching screenplay at Subhash Ghai’s Whistlingwoods.
