Scottish composer John Lunn was born on May 13, 1956. He is well-known for the soundtracks of numerous television shows and films, including Downton Abbey. May 1956 was Lunn’s birth month. His dad played the saxophone in a jazz ensemble.
Lunn studied 12-tone techniques at Glasgow University, where he received his degree. He has mentioned Miles Davis, György Ligeti, John Cage, and Milton Babbitt as musical inspirations. Additionally, Lunn performed keyboard and bass for the “systems music” band Man Jumping, a “jazz-pop-worldbeat fusion ensemble” from the early 1980s.
Using Cubase software, he created his own computerised compositional system after taking a brief computer music course at MIT. Later, he purchased an Orpheus FireWire interface, a Prism Sound ADA-8XR multichannel converter, and external hardware analogue dynamics and EQ devices in the shape of a Maselec MEA-2 equaliser and a Maselec MLA-2 tri-band compressor.
