American actress Jill Clayburgh (April 30, 1944 – November 5, 2010) was well-known for her roles in television, movies, and theatre. Her breakout performance in Paul Mazursky’s comedy drama An Unmarried Woman (1978) earned her the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress and a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. She was nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards for her work in television, four Golden Globes for her film roles, and a second straight Academy Award for her portrayal in Starting Over (1979). Clayburgh belonged to the pro-Israel organisation Writers and Artists for Peace in the Middle East. She endorsed a letter in 1984 against German arms shipments to Saudi Arabia.
