Jensen Ackles (born March 1, 1978) is an American actor and musician best known for his role as Dean Winchester in the long-running dark fantasy series Supernatural (2005–2020). He has also appeared in Days of Our Lives as Eric Brady, Dark Angel as Ben/X5-493 and Alec/X5-494, Smallville as Jason Teague, and The Boys as Soldier Boy. In film, he starred in My Bloody Valentine 3D and has voiced Jason Todd/Red Hood and Bruce Wayne/Batman in multiple DC animated films.
Ackles was born in Dallas, Texas, to actor Alan Roger Ackles and Donna Joan Shaffer. He grew up in Richardson, Texas, and graduated from Lloyd V. Berkner High School in 1996 before moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting.
Starting as a child model, he transitioned into acting in the late 1990s, gaining recognition for his role in Days of Our Lives, which earned him a Soap Opera Digest Award and three Daytime Emmy nominations. He later appeared in Dark Angel, Dawson’s Creek, and Smallville before landing his career-defining role as Dean Winchester in Supernatural, which ran for 15 seasons.
Outside of acting, Ackles is a musician and co-founded the band Radio Company with Steve Carlson, releasing three albums. He co-owns Family Business Beer Company in Dripping Springs, Texas, and founded Chaos Machine Productions, which produced The Winchesters, a Supernatural prequel.
He married actress Danneel Harris in 2010, and they have three children.
