Jeff Ward
Biography:
Jeff Ward (born December 30, 1986) is an American actor and theatre director, widely recognized for his roles as Deke Shaw in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2017–2020) and Buggy the Clown in Netflix’s One Piece (2023–present). He has also appeared as Roy Hardaway in the Netflix miniseries Brand New Cherry Flavor (2021) and Seth Marlowe in Channel Zero: No-End House (2017).
He was born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Radnor, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia, where he first became involved in theatre. He has a younger sister who works as a third-grade teacher. Ward studied at the Tisch School of the Arts alongside actor Miles Teller and later trained at the Stella Adler School for Acting.
Ward gained early attention when he portrayed Charles Manson in the 2016 television film Manson’s Lost Girls, a role he took on due to his interest in exploring the darker aspects of human nature.
In 2017, he starred as Seth Marlowe in the critically praised horror anthology series Channel Zero: No-End House. Later that year, he joined the Marvel series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Deke Shaw. Initially cast as a minor character named Virgil, Ward impressed the cast during a table read, leading producers to invite him to audition for the larger role of Deke, which he ultimately secured. He became a series regular in season six and continued through the show’s final season.
In November 2019, it was announced that he would take on a leading role in the Netflix horror drama Brand New Cherry Flavor, which premiered in August 2021.
In September 2022, Ward was cast as Buggy the Clown in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece. The following year, he expanded his career into directing, making his Off-Broadway debut with John Patrick Shanley’s Danny and the Deep Blue Sea at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. The production starred Aubrey Plaza and Christopher Abbott, with Ward also serving as an understudy for Abbott.s
