Biography:

Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan, an Indian film director and actor, made a significant mark in the Tamil and Malayalam cinema with his directorial ventures. Initially a software engineer who spent seven years in the United States, he returned to Chennai with aspirations of pursuing an acting career in Tamil films. He gained attention for his roles in movies such as “Urumi” (2011) and playing Ajith Kumar’s friend in Gautham Vasudev Menon’s “Yennai Arindhaal” (2015).

Radhakrishnan made his directorial debut with the bilingual film “Lens,” featuring Anand Sami, Vinutha Lal, and himself in lead roles. The movie released in both Malayalam and Tamil, receiving positive reviews and earning Radhakrishnan the Gollapudi Srinivas National Award for Best Debut Director. He continued his directorial journey with “The Mosquito Philosophy” (2019), an experimental family drama that he not only directed but also produced. The film’s narrative emerged from conversations with a friend, leading to an unconventional filming approach where scenes were created spontaneously, based on personal experiences, without a formal script.

His third film, “Thalaikoothal” (2023), produced by YNOT Studios, focused on the practice of the same name. Despite featuring established actors like Samuthirakani and Kathir, the film had a limited release. Radhakrishnan’s upcoming project is “Kadhal Enbadhu Podhu Udamai,” an LGBT-themed romantic drama starring Lijomol Jose and Anusha in the lead roles. His directorial trajectory is marked by a shift towards unique storytelling approaches and diverse thematic elements, positioning him as an innovative filmmaker in the Tamil and Malayalam film industry.
