Jaimie Alexander was born in Greenville, South Carolina, and relocated to Grapevine, Texas, at the age of four. She is the fourth of five children and the only girl in her family. Her interest in acting began in grade school when she joined theater for fun. However, she was removed from her high school theater program because she could not sing and instead focused on sports. At 17, she attended a meeting with a scouting agency on behalf of a friend, where she met her manager, Randy James. After graduating from Colleyville Heritage High School, she moved to Los Angeles about a year and a half later to pursue acting.
Her career took off in 2003 when she landed the lead role of Hanna Thompson in the low-budget, award-winning film The Other Side. Initially at the audition only to read opposite male actors, she was cast by director Gregg Bishop after delivering a strong performance. She next played Sara in Squirrel Trap, the love interest of the lead character, and soon after appeared in guest roles, including Tammy in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, where she played a manipulative femme fatale, and a minor role in Standoff.
Alexander then portrayed Caitlin Porter in the series Watch Over Me. In 2006, she starred in the horror film Rest Stop as Nicole Carrow, a young woman terrorized by a serial killer. The following year, she played Elizabeth Chambers in Hallowed Ground, another horror film, where her character becomes trapped in a town controlled by a cult.
In 2007, she joined the cast of the ABC Family series Kyle XY as Jessi, a troubled girl with superhuman powers, which earned her a strong fan following. She also made guest appearances on CSI: Miami as flight attendant Jenna York and on Bones as student Molly Briggs.
In 2009, Alexander was cast as Lady Sif in Marvel’s Thor (2011), reprising the role in Thor: The Dark World (2013) and in crossover appearances on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. In 2010, she was cast in the indie film Loosies and later joined the series Nurse Jackie as Tunie Peyton, Jackie’s reckless sister-in-law. She also appeared in Covert Affairs for three episodes in 2011.
Her film credits include Savannah (2013), in which she starred alongside Jim Caviezel and Chiwetel Ejiofor, and The Last Stand (2013), where she played deputy sheriff Sarah Torrance opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger. From 2015, she starred as Jane Doe in NBC’s Blindspot. She later reprised Lady Sif in Loki (2021), What If…?, and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022).
Outside film and television, Alexander appeared in Matthew Perryman Jones’ 2009 music video “Save You.” In 2010, she played Han Solo in Milo Ventimiglia’s web series Ultradome, and in 2011 reunited with Gregg Bishop for The Birds of Anger, a Hitchcock-inspired short based on the Angry Birds game. The latter was later featured by Robert Rodriguez on the El Rey Network in 2019.
On a personal note, Alexander began dating actor Peter Facinelli in 2012 after working with him on Loosies. They got engaged in 2015 but ended their engagement in 2016.
She has also endured significant on-set injuries. During Thor: The Dark World, she fell on a rainy morning, suffering severe spinal and shoulder injuries that sidelined her for a month. While filming Blindspot, she sustained multiple serious injuries, including fractured bones, dislocations, and spinal disc damage. In 2018, she was hospitalized for emergency surgery after her appendix ruptured, from which she later recovered.
