As a result of his parents’ UK birth, Jackman also possesses British citizenship in addition to his Australian citizenship. Nicholas Isidor Bellas, one of his paternal great-grandfathers, was Greek and came from the Ottoman Empire, which is today in Greece.Reference 10 Evangelist Billy Graham convinced his parents, who were already devoted Christians, after they were married.
Jackman was the second kid born in Australia to parents who had four older siblings. Due to his mother’s second marriage, he also has a younger half-sister. After his parents were divorced when he was eight years old, Jackman moved back to England with his mother and two sisters, but he stayed in Australia with his father and two brothers.
Jackman enjoyed being outside as a kid. He spent a lot of time at the beach, camping, and on school vacations all throughout Australia. “I used to spend nights looking at atlases,” he said, expressing his desire to explore the world.
I made up my mind to work as an airline chef. I assumed there was a chef because I’d been on an aircraft with meals. I believed that would be the perfect position.”After completing his elementary education at Pymble Public School, Jackman proceeded to the all-boys Knox Grammar School on Sydney’s Upper North Shore.
It was there that he performed in the school’s 1985 production of My Fair Lady and rose to the position of captain in 1986. In 1987, he worked as a physical education teacher at Uppingham School in England during his gap year. After returning, he pursued studies at the University of Technology, Sydney, where he earned a BA in communications in 1991.
He took a drama course to make up credits in his last year of college. With Jackman in the lead role, the class performed The Memorandum by Václav Havel. He went on to say, “In that week I felt more at home with those people than I did in the entire three years [at university]” .
Jackman did a year-long course at the Actors’ Centre in Sydney called “The Journey” after receiving his BA. He said of his decision to pursue acting full-time, “I never considered turning my pastime into a career until I was 22 years old. I had been interested in theater since I was a young lad.
However, the belief at my institution was that music and theater were meant to complete a man. That was not one’s occupation. I moved past that. I mustered the guts to declare, “I want to do it,” and get up.” He declined a chance to appear in the popular soap opera Neighbours after finishing
The Journey in order to enroll in Edith Cowan University’s Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in Perth, Western Australia, from which he graduated in 1994.According to Jackman, he “always loved acting, but I was the class clown when I started drama school.”
I just couldn’t seem to get it. In hindsight, I believe that is a good thing because everyone seemed more successful, more laid back, and more cool. As an actor, I think it’s beneficial to come from behind. It is a good idea, in my opinion, to enter an audition with the mindset, “Man, I’ve got to be at my best to get this gig.”
