English actor Hugh Richard Bonniwell Williams DL, better known by his stage name Hugh Bonneville, was born on November 10, 1963. His most well-known role was that of Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham, in the 2010–2015 ITV historical drama series Downton Abbey. He received three Screen Actors Guild Awards, two consecutive Primetime Emmy Award nominations, and a Golden Globe nomination for his work on the show. In the feature films Downton Abbey (2019), Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022), and Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale (2025), he reprised his role. In addition, he appeared in the films Notting Hill (1999), Iris (2001), The Monuments Men (2014), and the Paddington series (2014–present).
Bonneville’s portrayal of Ian Fletcher in Twenty Twelve (2011–2012) and W1A (2014–2017) earned him four nominations in the BAFTA Award for Best Male Comedy Performance category. He was also nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Iris.
