Hariharan Anantha Subramani, born on April 3, 1955, is an Indian singer known for his playback, bhajan, and ghazal performances in Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu languages. He has sung more than 15,000 songs in 10 different languages, including Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Sinhala, Bhojpuri, Odia, Bengali, Sanskrit, Gujarati, and English. Hariharan is recognized as a leading figure in ghazal singing and is considered a pioneer of Indian fusion music.
In 2004, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India and has won the National Award twice. Hariharan, along with Lesle Lewis, formed the duo Colonial Cousins, producing several private music albums and composing music for feature films in Tamil and Hindi.
In 2023, Hariharan achieved a significant milestone when his rendition of the Hanuman Chalisa, recorded in collaboration with the late Gulshan Kumar and released by T-Series, surpassed 3 billion views on YouTube. This achievement made it the first devotional song in the world to achieve such a feat.
