Gopinathan Nair Venugopal

Biography:

G. Venugopal, born Gopinathan Nair Venugopal on December 10, 1960, is a renowned playback singer recognized for his contributions to Malayalam cinema and his extensive discography in both films and private albums. He initiated his singing career with the film “Odaruthammava Aalariyam” in 1984, marking the inception of a prolific musical journey that spans over 4,000 films and encompasses over 500 private albums.

Born in Thattathumala, near Kilimanoor, Venugopal is the eldest child of Gopinathan Nair and Sarojini. His mother, Sarojini, served as the head of the music department at the Government College for Women in Thiruvananthapuram. His maternal aunts, K. Sharadamani and K. Radhamani, famously known as the Parur sisters, have contributed significantly to music. Notably, his cousins include singers Sujatha Mohan and Radhika Thilak, while Shweta Mohan is his niece.

In 1990, Venugopal married Reshmi, and together they have two children, Arvind and Anupallavi. Arvind, following in his father’s footsteps, has also ventured into playback singing.
