Giancarlo Ferrando was an Italian film director and cinematographer who lived from November 4, 1939, until August 13, 2020. Ferrando, who was born in Rome, saw his first movie as a young boy, appearing in a small role in In Olden Days by Alessandro Blasetti. He started working as Augusto Tiezzi’s assistant operator in the late 1950s. He worked as an operator and assistant cinematographer for more than ten years before making his cinematography debut in 1971.
The Martino brothers, director Sergio and producer Luciano, are Ferrando’s most well-known professional associates. La ragazza di Cortina (literally, “The Girl from Cortina”), which starred Vanessa Gravina, was the only movie he directed in 1994. On August 13, 2020, he passed away at the age of 80 from cancer.
