Biography:

Gene Kelly was an American film actor, dancer, singer, choreographer, and film-maker who was one of the most significant icons of the Hollywood musical period. Being born on August 23, 1912, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Kelly studied dance from early youth, worked on Broadway and in Hollywood. His fame was gained due to such films as “For Me and My Gal” (1942), “Anchors Aweigh” (1945), “The Pirate” (1948), “On the Town” (1949), etc. Famous for his athletic dancing, vigorous choreography, and innovative musical films, Kelly brought changes to the genre and popularized it by including dancing in realistic locales.

Gene Kelly reached the pinnacle of his success due to such films as “An American in Paris” (1951) and “Singin’ in the Rain” (1952), where he directed, danced and acted alongside Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor. The other major movies include “Brigadoon” (1954), “It’s Always Fair Weather” (1955), “Les Girls” (1957), etc., after which Kelly continued to work as a film director and performer in TV shows. Kelly was awarded an Honorary Oscar for his versatile talents of an actor, singer, director, and dancer in 1952. Gene Kelly passed away on February 2, 1996, in Beverly Hills, California, and is considered to be one of the best dancers and musicians in the world of cinema.
