Ganesh Venkatraman is an accomplished Indian actor known for his work in Tamil and Telugu films. Born into a Tamil Brahmin Iyer family, he tied the knot with actress Nisha Krishnan in November 2015, and they welcomed their first child, Samaira, in June 2019. The couple recently celebrated the arrival of their second child, a baby boy, on October 3, 2023.
Beginning his career in the entertainment industry, Ganesh initially ventured into television serials, starring in popular shows such as “Antariksh” and “Mayavi.” Notably, “Mayavi” was recognized as the first 3D serial in Tamil television. Ganesh’s journey into films commenced with “The Angrez” (2006), an experimental crossover film shot in Hyderabadi Urdu. However, immediate film opportunities did not follow.
His debut in Tamil cinema came with Radha Mohan’s family drama, “Abhiyum Naanum” (2008), where he played Trisha’s Punjabi fiancé, earning critical acclaim. Ganesh continued to make a mark in the industry, working alongside accomplished actors like Kamal Haasan, Mohanlal, and Venkatesh in the bilingual film “Unnaipol Oruvan” (2009). He portrayed a police officer in this film and also took on the role of an army general in Major Ravi’s war film, “Kandahar.”
Despite facing challenges, Ganesh worked on various projects, including the thriller film “Muriyadi” with Sathyaraj and the bilingual Tamil and Hindi film “Panithuli” (2012). However, the latter received negative reviews and performed poorly at the box office.
In 2013, Ganesh focused on Tamil cinema, appearing in Sundar C’s bilingual film “Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru” and the action film “Ivan Veramathiri.” He also played the role of a prince in Roopa Iyer’s bilingual film, “Chandra.”
While some of his subsequent releases faced commercial challenges, Ganesh continued to explore diverse roles in films like “Thani Oruvan” (2015), where he portrayed a supporting role. He also delved into the psychological thriller “Achaaram” (2015) and the drama “Pallikoodam Pogamale” (2015).
Ganesh’s journey in the film industry includes both successes and setbacks, with films like “Thodari” (2016) and “Nayaki” (2016) receiving negative reviews and performing poorly at the box office. His investigative thriller films “Inayathalam” (2017) and “7 Naatkal” (2017) also faced commercial challenges.
Looking ahead, Ganesh is set to appear in the supporting cast of “Vanangamudi” as a police officer alongside Aravind Swamy. Additionally, his long-delayed Hindi film, “Guns of Banaras,” is expected to see a theatrical release in late 2017.
Before entering the world of acting, Ganesh Venkatraman was a successful model and was crowned Gladrags Mr. India 2003. He represented India in Mr. World 2004. In September 2014, Ganesh ventured into television hosting with the reality game show “Vendhar Veetu Kalyanam” on Vendhar TV. He later participated as a contestant on the reality show “Achcham Thavir” by Star Vijay in 2017, and that same year, he finished as the third runner-up in the Bigg Boss reality show.
