Dina Pathak (March 4, 1922 – October 11, 2002) was a renowned Indian actress and director with a significant presence in Gujarati theatre and the film industry. She was also an activist who served as the President of the National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW).
Dina Pathak, considered a stalwart in both Hindi and Gujarati cinema and theatre, appeared in more than 120 films during her illustrious career spanning over six decades. She gained acclaim for her production titled “Mena Gurjari” in the Bhavai folk theatre style, which enjoyed prolonged success and is still performed today.
Her most notable roles in Hindi cinema include her memorable performances in “Gol Maal” and “Khubsoorat.” She was a favorite in India’s Art Cinema scene, where she portrayed powerful characters in films such as “Koshish,” “Umrao Jaan,” “Mirch Masala,” and “Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho!”
In the realm of Gujarati cinema, Dina Pathak made her mark with notable films like “Moti Ba,” “Malela Jeev,” and “Bhavni Bhavai.” Her impressive theatrical works included plays like “Dinglegar,” “Doll’s House,” “Vijan Sheni,” and Girish Karnad’s “Hayavadana,” directed by Satyadev Dubey.
